14 Floor Tom Vs 16
If i decided to go 1 up 1 down i d take the 11x14 rack tom and mount it on a snare stand and use a 16 x16 floor tom to accompany it.
14 floor tom vs 16. The sound is what you would expect from a 16 ft and that s what it is. To me the design version floor or mounted is not important only the size and position. I don t care for 16 floor toms. Equal size increments help to get equal intervals between the drums.
From all of the floor toms my favorite sounding one is the 16x14. Same with 22 bass drums. I always have a hard time getting them to sound good. The deeper drums have a bit more sustain but the difference is really small.
I use my 12 and 14 mounted toms in floor tom position and the 16 floor next to it as third floor tom. I prefer a 20 but for a bigger sound i go for a 24. Darth vater and rolltide. If i had a choice between a 14 diameter drum it would be a 11x14 rack tom rather than a 14 x14 floor tom.
They are a dynamic duo. The 16 diameter is almost always a floor tom. The 14 floor tom i have no problem with but if i want a bigger sound i step over the 16 and go for the 18 floor tom. The suspension causes a little spring in the drum but not enough to create any distraction.
I played a 14 inch floor tom for many many years. I m enjoying my first hanging 16 x 14 floor tom and an 18 x 16 with it. It works good for many styles of music and in small venues. As a floor tom the depths range from 11 to 14.
Especially for outdoor use. Apr 12 2020 8 i play a 12 16 tom setup and really value the large tonal separation between the two. The most popular floor tom sizes are 14 x 12 13 and 14. 16x18 a rarer size sometimes used for a second floor tom also with a 16x16.
Generally a 14 tom is a very easy drum and it produces a great sound regardless of the depth. I have drum sets configured 12 14 20 12 16 22 13 16 20 13 16 22 11 16 18 and my walberg auge set that came from the factory with a 14x22 bass drum 9x13 mounted tom and a 16 deep x 14 across floor tom. In the last four years i have been playing a 16 inch floor tom. Now i realize that sometimes you just have to have a 16 inch tom.
Floor toms can be mounted. 14 and 16 inch floor tom. Every floor tom of mine is a true floor tom with legs. If you want to size down think about the intervals you want in your kit.
14 inches 36 cm x14 for jazz and fusion kits and very occasionally with a 16x16 as well.
